This book lists and describes Hampshire’s players, home grounds, and matches prior to the formation of the County Cricket Club in September 1863. Its publication is especially timely because 2022 is the 250th anniversary of the match Hampshire v England at Broadhalfpenny Down which is now recognised as the inaugural first-class cricket match anywhere in the world.

Stephen’s new book has a number of illustrations. In some respects, it fits in as part one of Dave Allen’s book, Hampshire County Cricketers, which covered the period from the formation of the club in September 1863.

Stephen is a long-time expert on Hampshire cricket of the eighteenth and early nineteenth century (and he has been a member of Hampshire since 1953). He is a Director of Hampshire Cricket Heritage.

The book is priced at £10 + £4 p&p and Stephen can be contacted at oastcottage@btinternet.com. Purchases can be made through Stephen’s PayPal account.
