This is a full account of the great events that took place on Broadhalfpenny Down in the 18th Century. The story is carried forward from those ‘Glory days’ of huge attendances and heavy betting to a time when the ground lay in utter neglect – and then forward to its revival. The myth of Broadhalfpenny Down as the ‘birthplace’ of cricket persists but this modern account corrects that with a detailed account of what really took place.
