Cage Cricket at St Edmund’s in Portsmouth
Members will remember that last year a cheque was presented to the Cage Cricket initiative which was developed in Portsmouth to encourage inner city ‘kids’ to play cricket despite limited access to traditional facilities.
Cage Cricket has spread as far north as Manchester and overseas to Holland, India and elsewhere. On Wednesday 13 November your secretary Lou, with Dave Allen, attended St Edmund’s School in the heart of Portsmouth for the opening of their new Sports Hall and the launch of Cage Cricket at the school with a full kit bag sponsored by the Hambledon Club.
Hampshire’s captain Jimmy Adams came along, and the event was attended by Kevan James of BBC Radio Solent. There was a short feature about it on BBC’s South Today – the young people clearly enjoyed their first experience of the game and if you saw it, you helped to provide that equipment.
