Dr. Dave Allen is the Hon Archivist of Hampshire Cricket at the Ageas Bowl. He has watched Hampshire since the 1950s and in 2007 published this detailed history of the Club from the immediate postwar period, through to the Lord’s Cup Final triumph of 2005. In the following winter, the club’s President Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie died and this history also marks the period from his arrival as a schoolboy at the Southampton Easter nets of 1946 until his death. The title “entertain or perish” is the instruction he gave to his side in 1958 – his first year as captain.
